I learnt about this many years ago but never really need to use it because some of the affiliate programs that I signed up for didn’t allow me to parse data back from Google Adwords. If you’re reading this you’ll know the reason why you might want to be parsing keywords in Google Adwords, but for the benefit of other readers I’ll quickly explain.
When people search on Google they can type any combination of keywords to find the information that they want. As advertisers (affiliate marketers), we want to know what the user is typing. You might be thinking, why?
- There might be phrase that we didn’t think about – ie we can now build more specific keywords and hence reduce our advertising spend and increasing return
- There might be a phrase that we don’t want to be advertising for – ie. we can now stop advertising on keywords that we don’t want and hence save wasted advertising budget
- Apart from the two, it allows us to understand the market that are clicking through our Ads and measuring which Keyword terms are more convertable (ie. they signed up to something, made a purchase, do some action that we wanted etc.)
Anyways, if you want to know how this is done, Google has a great tutorial which takes less than 5 minutes to learn – How Do I User Keyword Insertion? (Tutorial)
PS: Another word people use for Parsing Keywords in Google Adword is Keyword Insertion or Dynamic Keyword Insertion
