Mail and Address Book not responding after Snow Leopard Upgrade: Solution

One of the biggest oversight by Apple with the recent Snow Leopard upgrade has got to be this (in my opinion). The first thing I noticed when after launching my address book at the start was that it took a very long time to populate the contacts. I rebooted a few times and the same thing happened…

The problem is that the smart group appears to no longer allow smart groups to do filters by on the category ‘Group’… I previously had a smart group for all contacts that I didn’t have in an ordinary group.

The solution is relatively simple…

AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi – Easiest Installation Ever

Just got my AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi delivered today. I was very surprised it came on the weekend, Australia Post are obviously working over time or something. Either way, I got two surprises today. The fact that the wireless router got delivered by Australia Post and more importantly, the simplicity and ease of changing my Netgear wireless router (which have dying from a heart attack) to the new Apple AirPort Extreme!

Opening up the box and having a very brief look through the manual (about 10sec), I decided to just ‘wing it’ and see if this thing would plug and play.

  1. I took my old Netgear wireless router out
  2. Replaced it with the Airport Extreme (didn’t have to think too much just replace the old cable connections into the Airport Extreme
  3. Installed the AirPort Extreme Utility from the CD
  4. Run the Utility
  5. followed the instruction (replace existing wireless router with AirPort Extreme) – about 2-3 clicks

The AirPort Extreme was smart enough to know my existing Netgear wireless configuration and copied. Then it did a quick reboot and everything was working! I think I spent more time opening the box than I did installing the Apple wireless router! This is the way all hardware should be!

The more I use Apple, the happier I get. All these ‘delightful’ surprises makes spending the extra money worthwhile.

In summary, covert to Apple! It’s worth it!
